CAD Monster Truck
For my SE101 Engineering Graphics & Design course, I led a team project to reverse engineer and model a toy monster truck using Fusion360, applying parametric CAD, product decomposition, and detailed dimensioning to create a precise digital replica. The project strengthened my spatial visualization, tolerancing, and technical documentation skills while translating physical components into manufacturable 2D and 3D designs.
Project 1: I led the reverse engineering of a toy monster truck by fully disassembling the product and creating a detailed product decomposition diagram across three major subassemblies. Using Fusion360, I modeled each component with precise dimensions to accurately capture the original design intent. This process strengthened my ability to translate physical products into structured digital models suitable for analysis and iteration. Project 2: I developed over 50 detailed CAD drawings and rendered designs that documented each individual part and subassembly of the truck. By enforcing tight dimensional accuracy and consistent tolerances, I produced a complete one to one digital replica that could be used for manufacturing and design evaluation. This work emphasized engineering rigor, documentation quality, and design for reproducibility. Project 3: I engineered a precise one to one scale replica of the truck’s tires using advanced 3D printing techniques to explore potential product design improvements. By iterating on tread geometry and material considerations, I evaluated how small design changes could impact performance and manufacturability. This project combined CAD modeling, prototyping, and hands on experimentation to deepen my understanding of product design tradeoffs.
